Types Of Homes Perfect For The Environmentally Conscious

Jason Hunt

If you're someone who cares deeply about environmental issues such as reducing energy consumption and pollution, there are a few types of homes out there that are ideal for you. Here are a few examples of homes that help to reduce waste.

Modern Manufactured Homes

Some people refer to manufactured homes as "mobile" homes, but the modern manufactured home is simply a home that is built entirely in a factory under controlled conditions. The house is then moved to its final destination. Modern manufactured homes can look exactly like the traditional variety.

Manufactured homes are more environmentally friendly than the more traditional variety because of how they are made and because of the policies that companies creating them usually have.  For example, it's common for factories to completely fill manufactured homes with Energy Star appliances that have been certified by the government to be more energy efficient.

Additionally, studies from a government agency have indicated that manufactured homes in one particular study were 55% more energy efficient than their traditional counterparts.

Since manufactured homes are created in a factory, many of the variables that can change how the house is made, such as the weather conditions during construction, are eliminated. This only serves to make it easier to create efficient houses. Contact Roca Modular Homes if you're interested in a manufactured home.

Tiny Houses

Another common powerful trend for home buying involves purchasing tiny houses instead of the average size. The average size of a house is 2,598 square feet, whereas tiny houses average at only 186 square feet. This means that purchasing a tiny house is more than an order of magnitude less wasteful in terms of trees saved than buying a house of an average size.

Tiny houses are maximized to allow for the smallest possible amount of space that a person requires. The idea is that most people work and go out so much anyway that a lot of extra space isn't required. Since the area in the house is much less, the power needed to keep it lit and heated is much less as well. Another consequence of this is that much less carbon dioxide is released into the environment. In fact, this is around ten times less in a tiny house than it is in a house that has an average size.

Those who care deeply about the environment will often feel gratified knowing that they are helping to cut back on pollution and energy waste as much as possible by buying a house that maximizes this effect.
